Today we're diving into the major changes Glide just announced to their pricing model and how that impacts Glide app developers and businesses. If you're using Glide to build apps, this is essential info you need to know.
Glide's New Pricing Plans: Maker vs Team vs Business
So what exactly changed with Glide's pricing? The starter plan is now called the Maker plan at $25/month, the Pro plan is now Team at $99/month, and Business is still Business at $249/month. Sounds pretty similar, right? Well, the big difference is in the number of users. The old Pro plan gave you 50 private users and 500 public users. Now, the Team and Business plans only include 20 users! Additional users on Team cost $5/user/month and $10/user/month on Business if paying month-to-month. That's a big drop.
Glide User Management Just Got More Expensive
So what does this mean for Glide app developers? If you're building apps that will have a lot of users, the costs can add up fast now, especially for public-facing apps. Let's say you have a public app and expect it to grow to 1000 users. On the old Pro plan, no problem - 500 of those would be included! But now on the Team plan, after your first 20 users, you're paying $5/month for the other 980. That's an extra $4900 per month!
Glide Apps Are Still Perfect for Internal Tools
However, Glide is still an incredibly powerful platform for building high-quality internal tools and apps for businesses. If you're a company investing in custom software to streamline processes or enable your team, Glide is perfect. The per-user costs are easier to justify when it's for your own employees using internal apps that drive business value. And the Glide app builder makes it fast and easy for anyone to create powerful tools without coding. Some great use cases for Glide apps:
Custom CRM and sales tracking apps
HR and employee management tools
Inventory and logistics apps
Executive dashboards
Field service apps
New Glide Features for Building Internal Apps
Speaking of building internal apps, Glide snuck in an awesome new feature with this pricing update - User Roles and Permissions! You can now:
Define user roles like Admin, Employee, Manager
Set granular permissions for each role
Control who can view and edit different screens and components
Assign users to roles to enforce permissions
This makes it easy to build internal apps for your whole team while controlling access to sensitive data. We'll be diving into how to set this up in Part 2 of our Glide Applicant Tracker series!
Is Glide Still Right for Your Project?
So in light of these pricing changes, is Glide still the right tool for what you're building? Here's my take:
If you're building public apps that you expect to scale to hundreds or thousands of users, Glide is likely not the most cost-effective choice anymore. Look into other app builders like Webflow, Figma, and FlutterFlow.
If you're building apps for internal business use with a limited number of users, Glide is still perfect. The per-user costs are manageable and the platform is unrivaled for building powerful tools fast.
For passion projects, MVPs, and proof-of-concepts, Glide can still work great if you make use of the Maker plan's unlimited Personal Users (Gmail sign-ups). Just keep an eye on your usage as you scale to avoid surprises.

How many users are included in each Glide plan now?
The Team and Business plans now only include 20 users (down from 50 on the old Pro plan). The Maker plan has unlimited Personal Users (Gmail sign-ups). Additional users cost $5/user/month on Team and $10/user/month on Business.
What are Personal Users on Glide?
Personal Users are users who sign up for your app using a free email provider like Gmail or Outlook. These don't count toward your app's user limit on paid plans. However, to have Personal Users, your app must be on the Maker plan which doesn't include Glide Tables or Integrations.

Glide is now more expensive for apps that will have a large number of users, especially public-facing apps. The per-user costs can add up quickly. For public apps that you expect to scale significantly, evaluate other app building platforms as well.
What kind of apps is Glide best suited for now?
Glide is still perfect for internal business tools, especially ones that are re-inventing existing processes. The costs are easier to justify and the easy app building is unrivaled.
